Steps taken to replace a furnace air filter:

Step 1 -  disconnect the power of your electricity before you perform any furnace maintenance, including Furnace Air Filter replace. If you use gas heater then you should shut down your gas line connection before applying any furnace maintenance or filter changes.

Step 2 – open the furnace blower door as describe in your furnace model.

Step 3 – your furnace filter should be clearly visible after the blower door opened. Step 6 – the filtration is unidirectional means that the filter must be inserted so that the air flow is directed through it in the proper direction and do not put it backward. Most filters are fiberglass with one side slightly oily and this side usually faces the blower and the other side collects the filter material for disposal.  If there is no indication of the accurate installation in your manual description then you might easy to look at the filter itself because most models will have printed arrows direction on them to show you the way to insert the filter itself.
